It’s not wrong to take preventative measures to keep your browsing history from being tracked. Internet providers do this regularly in order to provide data to big corporations, so there is no denying that your privacy is being violated. It’s just a matter of what you want to do about it.
How Long Do Internet Providers Keep Browsing History?
The most common reason to ‘hack’ your browsing history, as we mentioned, does not really have malicious intent. It’s all about profit. Big corporations like to have a handle on what people are interested in — if only to know whether or not there is going to be a drop or rise in supply and demand. Internet providers like AT&T, Docomo, Comcast, Time Warner, etc. store data (including your browsing history) to provide this information to them.
Internet Service Providers (ISPs) compile anonymous browsing data regularly. Some keep their data stored for only 6 months, whilst others might keep their data for a year or more. It shouldn’t affect you directly, unless law enforcement subpoenas your ISP to make a conviction.
Can You Check Your Phone Internet History Online?
It’s not necessarily just your ISPs checking your browsing history though. Anyone that has access to your phone can go through all the sites that you’ve visited and what time/date you visited them. The process is demonstrated below, and it’s very easily done.
How to Check Your Phone Internet History Online
To start, you will need to launch your preferred browser (be it Chrome, Safari, etc.)
For most browsers, checking history is as easy as selecting the CONTROL icon and selecting History from the drop-down menu that appears.
And, just like that, you’ll be moved to your History page — where you can see all the sites you’ve visited and when you visited them.
